Sudoku Book & Game privacy policy
Last updated: 20 October 2026
Summary
Sudoku Book & Game – Offline (“the app”, formerly “Sudoku – Play Like a Book”) has no accounts and does not ask for your name, email address or phone number. All puzzles are built into the app, and your progress and settings stay on your device. The app has no server of its own. It shows a banner ad served by Google AdMob.
What stays on your device
- Your puzzles, progress, notes, moves (for undo and rewind), times, mistakes, hints and stamps.
- Your settings (style, symbols, colours, fonts, timer, game mode, input and checking options).
- Volumes you have bought.
- Puzzles you add with a code or by scanning.
- Photos you scan to import a puzzle. Text and QR reading happens on your device; the photo is not uploaded and is kept only in the app’s temporary storage.
This data is deleted when you use “Reset all progress” (purchased volumes are kept), clear the app’s data, or uninstall the app. Nothing is copied to us, so we cannot restore it.
What leaves your device
The app itself sends nothing to us. Data only leaves your device through the Google services below, or when you choose to share something.
Advertising
The app shows a banner ad served by Google AdMob. Google may collect your device’s advertising ID, IP address and device information to show and measure ads, and in some regions to personalise them. Where the law requires it (for example in the EEA and UK), the app asks for your consent before any ad is loaded, and you can change your choice at any time under Settings → Privacy choices. See how Google uses data from apps that use its services.
Ads are switched off once you own any paid volume.
Purchases and ratings
- Volumes are bought through Google Play (or the App Store). Payment is handled entirely by Google or Apple; we never see your payment details. Your purchases are restored from the store.
- Now and then, after you solve a page without hints, the app may show Google Play’s own rating window. Anything you write there goes to Google Play, not to the app.
Other Google services
- Fonts are downloaded from Google Fonts the first time they are used, which shows Google your IP address.
- Install link. On Android, the first time you open the app, it reads the Google Play install link once, only to open a puzzle if the app was installed from a printed puzzle’s link. It is not stored or sent anywhere.
When you choose to share
- Sharing or printing a puzzle hands the puzzle (its code, and for your own puzzles its starting numbers) to the app or printer you pick.
- Reporting a puzzle opens a new issue on our public GitHub page in your browser, filled in with the puzzle’s code, its starting numbers, your board, the game mode and the app version. Nothing is sent unless you submit it there, and a submitted issue is public on GitHub.
What we do not do
- We do not use analytics or crash-reporting services.
- We do not collect your location, contacts, camera roll or microphone.
- We do not sell your data.
Who the app is for
The app is for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13.
Changes
If the app starts collecting different data, this policy will be updated first and the store listing’s data safety section will be changed to match. Earlier versions of the app sent anonymous style counts, shared puzzle codes and group-game details to a server; that server and those features have been removed.
